Stinkin' Lincoln

I honestly thought that after Boston last week we would settle down for a while. Little did I know (until the morning of, when Topher decided he wanted to play at 6:30 in the morning so I turned on the morning news) that yesterday was going to be Connecticut's Open House, meaning that a bunch of things were free across the state. Once we woke up again after Topher fell back asleep, we hopped in the car to see what we could find.

The start of the day was a little sketchy when we were going to have wait 50 minutes to get into the Nathan Hale Homestead.

I only regret that I have but 15 minutes to wait for the next tour.

We decided we'd pack it up and come back another day. We actually visited once before when we were out interviewing. We couldn't take the tour then either.

From there we decided to head into Hartford. Interestingly this was our first trip into the city, despite having lived 30 minutes away for the last 10 months.

Our status as country bumpkins again showed through as we took multiple shots of this bridge.

Bridges, especially bridges this awesome, are somewhat scarce in Utah.

We were amazed by all the sites. Things are so advanced the pharmacies even have pediments.

They've gone about as fer as they can go.

Once in Hartford we made our way to the Harriet Beecher Stowe house. Megan had a brush with greatness when she met Abraham Lincoln.

The only thing I heard Lincoln say was "It's good to see someone else in a bow-tie" to another employee. He could work on his impersonation.

I was happy enough when I found out they had free popcorn.

I'm a little surprised I decided to post this one. Pretend you didn't see it.

From there we headed to a museum in the center of Hartford.

Topher insisted on walking much of the way. Perhaps the Pretty Old Furniture display wasn't holding his interest.

After all of Megan's fun at historic sites around the state, I got to have my fun at the museum.

No funny caption here, just a happy wannabe artist.

Topher was a pretty happy camper, too.

People so enjoy Topher when we're out and about, we were tempted to stick a hat out in front of him to see if we could collect any change for the entertainment.

All and all it was a great day. I just wonder if we'll be able to keep up the pace in the coming weeks.

In milestone news, Megan finally managed to get a picture of Topher's tooth.

This kind of reminds me of the creepy pictures in dentists' offices. Only more cute than creepy.

And for those of you who watch the videos we post, here is a special treat:

That looks like the Wadsworth in Hartford! Did you love it? I'm so glad you are getting out and about and discovering New England! I can't believe Topher is trying to walk. He's just too little! Well, you know it was a good day when you can say you met Lincoln AND ate free popcorn.

Hey that was great with Topher walking. Was that the first time he had ever walked? That was so cool. Hey, I am glad you had fun in Hartford and surrounding places. Wish you could have gone through the tours, though. Maybe next time.
